 Chapter 1: The Early Life of Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879, in Ulm, a small town in Germany. His parents were Hermann Einstein and Pauline Koch. His father was an engineer and salesman, while his mother loved music and played the piano beautifully — something young Albert enjoyed too.


Einstein wasn’t a “genius child” as people imagine. In fact, he spoke slowly and didn’t start talking until he was around four years old, which worried his parents. But deep inside, he was full of curiosity. He loved asking questions — “Why does a compass always point north?” or “What makes the light shine?” These small questions became the roots of his great discoveries later.


When he was five, his father showed him a magnetic compass, and that single moment changed everything. Einstein couldn’t understand how the needle moved without touching anything — it was his first experience with the mystery of invisible forces, which later became central in his scientific work.


He went to school in Munich, where he didn’t enjoy the strict discipline. Teachers wanted students to memorize everything, but Einstein preferred to think, imagine, and explore. He once said later in life:
